Writing allows me, as a singer/songwriter, to give sinew and flesh to music's skeletal framework, allowing me to sing stories into life. Composing a song begins with witnessing a passing moment, stumbling upon a remarkable story, or tripping over a new idea. Words on paper, a chord progression uncovered, or the persistent humming of a tune in the heart pushes the creative process forward. When a song finally emerges - first on paper, and then in a public performance in communion with those listening - the result is at once deeply humbling and incredibly satisfying.

I once asked James Taylor, one of the first inspirations for my own songwriting journey, which comes first in a song: the words or the music. He laughed, and said, "It depends on where you are." He was right in more ways than one.

Below find the lyrics and tunings to three CDs worth of songs. I hope you will find as much meaning and inspiration in them as I do!
